Have you been looking for a new and creative way to connect with your partner? Are you searching for conversation starters to help you open up to one another and create a safe space for open communication?
Gene and his fiancé were looking for ideas that would help them work on communication and discover new things about each other when they saw MyIntent's Question Cards.
Gene found that the questions from the card deck allowed them to "tap into conversations" that they didn't commonly talk about during daily discussions.
He mentions that each question "gets your mind going in a direction that can feel almost adventurous. It’s almost like exploring yourself and your partner at the same time."
This reflective journey allowed the couple to not only learn more about each other, but about themselves as well. Gene found that he discovered things about himself based on the answers he gave or how he answered each question.
He notes that "the cards also exposed areas about ourselves that we may need to work on - whether it be me as an individual or in my relationship."
"It’s almost like exploring yourself and your partner at the same time."
When using the cards to promote conversation, Gene states: "We typically shuffle the deck and pull out an even number of cards. We split the cards in half and each take turns answering the cards from each deck. We allow one another to finish out our answer before the other person can comment or add to the question."
The impact that the cards have had is profound.
Gene highlights a key part of the process by noting how "some days the cards have made us feel closer and some days they have challenged our relationship…But I believe that’s how relationships are, ups and downs. The challenges are what strengthen a relationship and the cards are a nice kick-start to providing those vulnerable moments that ultimately bring a deeper connection with your partner."
Similarly, Gene's fiancé also enjoyed the activity. She "loved using the cards. She’s always looking to connect and get closer to me."
"...the cards are a nice kick-start to providing those vulnerable moments that ultimately bring a deeper connection with your partner."
The MyIntent Question Card deck features 33 questions that are grouped into 6 categories: Let Go, Be Me, Dream, Grow, Love, and Serve.
You can use the deck in the same way that Gene did as a way to create a new line of communication and form stronger connections with your partner. You can also use them as an icebreaker during team-building exercises for work, school, church, or any group setting.
Additionally, the questions on each card also serve well as journal prompts for self-reflection. Choose one a day and write down your answers for a mindful exercise that promotes self-growth!
